Job Description
The Shop/Grounds Laborer is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and functionality of vehicles, heavy equipment, and the shop environment. This role supports utility installations in power, telecom, water, and sewer fields. Additionally, the Shop/Grounds Laborer handles light cleaning of shop common areas and assists in maintaining the building grounds and outbuildings.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions):
  • Support the shop with various tasks.
  • Remove snow from designated areas.
  • Wash and detail all vehicles and equipment.
  • Clean the shop and pole buildings.
  • Relocate vehicles and equipment as needed.
  • Perform janitorial duties, including trash removal, sweeping, mopping, and cleaning bathrooms.
  • Organize and stock inventory shop supplies and materials.
  • Run errands and deliver items for the shop.
  • Mow the lawn and perform landscaping activities.
  • Shovel snow and salt sidewalks.
  • Assist with the setup and takedown of shop events or meetings.
  • Ensure proper disposal of hazardous materials following safety guidelines.
  • Monitor and report any safety hazards or maintenance needs in the shop and grounds.
  • Ensure vehicles and equipment are fueled and ready for use, as needed.
  • Follow all health and safety regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Physical and Environmental Factors:
  • Ability to work in outdoor weather conditions.
  • Ability to walk, sit, stand, bend, twist, stoop, push, pull, carry and lift as needed.
  • Ability to coordinate eye, hand, feet, and limbs in performing skilled movements.
  • Requires strenuous physical work; heavy lifting, pushing or pulling of objects of a minimum of 75 pounds.
  • 10% field.

Education and/or Experience:
  • Education: High School Graduate or GED Certificate
  • Work Experience: Preferred experience working in a shop environment, particularly involving vehicles and heavy equipment.

Requirements:
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Positive attitude and willingness to learn.

  • Proficiency with daily use of hand tools.
  • Ability to maintain equipment and hand tools.
  • Ability to read, comprehend, and follow instructions.

  • Ability to pass pre-employment screening.
  • Ability to stoop, crawl, bend at the knees and waist, squat, and lift at least 75 lbs.
  • Ability to stand for long periods on varied surfaces.
