Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Work independently and/or as part of a team to develop construction budgets based on conceptual plans, schematic drawings, design development drawings, or full construction documents.
  • Ability to look beyond the information that has been given, to ask the right questions and work to provide a complete project cost evaluation.
  • Must be aggressive in finding innovative solutions to complex issues as they arise related to cost, lead-times, trade partners, and/or specified products or materials.
  • Ability to prepare detailed estimates and, as the design evolves, develop variance summaries between estimates and value engineering studies throughout.
  • Ability to assemble a compete presentation-worthy estimate package that clearly communicates project cost.
  • Review plans and prepare recommendations and pricing as it relates to supervision, project management, safety, logistics, staging, general conditions, special conditions, and jobsite requirement costs of a particular project.
  • Ability to engage and develop business with new and existing customers and act as a relationship manager to serve the needs of the client and protect the interests of Martin Horn.
  • Participate in and often lead the preparation and presentation of cost/budget information to the customer/owner.
  • Ability to lead and facilitate value engineering sessions with the project and design team.
  • Effectively prepare, track, and communicate construction contingencies and allowances with client.
  • Make subcontractor award recommendations to clients and negotiate subcontractors with trade partners.
  • Perform constructability reviews with architects, structural engineers, and MEP engineers to effectively analyze cost risk of building as well as perform detailed value engineering studies to mitigate cost and budget exposure.
  • Executing accurate, detailed and complete conceptual, preliminary, contract, and final estimates.
  • Ability to prepare detailed instructions to bidders, trade specific clarifications and comprehensive bid packages.
  • Must have experience with the bidding process: soliciting bids, communicating with the bidders, evaluating subcontractor proposals, bid-leveling, scope review, etc.
  • Must be familiar with reviewing construction contracts and identifying key insurance and damages clauses.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Creative and innovative approaches and solutions on a project-by-project basis.
  • Highly organized, efficient, detail oriented and accurate.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and negotiating skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and establish a relationship built on trust with clients, architects, engineers, subcontractors and other stakeholders.
  • Experience with successfully preparing persuasive preconstruction proposals and responding to RFPs.
  • Familiarity with construction industry standards and regulations.
  • Experience with computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite, take-off software (On-Screen Takeoff or similar), BIM tools, (Revit, Navisworks, SketchUp, or similar), project management software (CMiC, Vista, ProjectSight, Procore, or similar), and scheduling software (MS Project, Asta, or similar).

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in construction management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field. Preferred, but not required.
  • 10 years of industry experience in various construction types and systems.
  • Project experience should include projects of values greater than $10 million. Conceptual to construction documents.
  • Thorough working knowledge of all phases of design and construction.
  • Detailed knowledge of the construction disciplines, including but not limited to: concrete, masonry, steel, wood frame, MEP systems, and interior/exterior finishes.

Compensation:

We offer a competitive salary based on experience, $130,000+/year. Advancement opportunities are available for top performers.
