Description

This position is responsible for maintaining specific parks areas. May be requested to work varied schedule including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Essential Job Functions

Work activities involve multiple skills and may include, but are not limited to, any of the following depending on area of assignment, crew needs, emergency services, special projects, and seasonal factors:

  • Daily maintenance of various park buildings and park grounds as assigned.
  • Picking up litter, emptying garbage cans, weeding flowerbeds, watering trees/plants, painting, mowing.
  • Operate various hand and power tools and equipment.
  • Clean toilets and urinals, mop floors, wipe walls, wash windows, etc.
  • Prepare baseball/softball fields for play.
  • Communicate with the public in a polite and professional manner.
  • Complete incident report forms immediately after a situation occurs and route them to the Parks Supervisor.
  • Set up and work City sponsored special events as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing in a concise, accurate and courteous manner.
  • Ability to work well with other employees.
  • Ability to regularly lift 50 pounds.
  • Ability to maintain composure when interacting with angry or upset individuals.

Supervisory Responsibility:
No direct supervisory responsibilities.

Performance Requirements (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities):
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required, with or without reasonable accommodation.

  • Knowledge of safe operation of hand and power tools and equipment. Ability to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
  • Ability to work independently but remain a member of the parks division team. Ability to work weekends, evenings and holidays if needed.
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions.
  • Ability to complete duties in an effective and timely manner.

Qualifications & Requirements

An equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential job functions may be considered.

  • High School Diploma or GED Equivalent.
  • Must pass a Criminal Background and Drivers Abstract check prior to hire.
  • Valid State Driver's License and a good driving record to be maintained during the course of employment.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Familiarity working with equipment such as power tools, riding mowers, and weed eaters.
  • Experience working outside during inclement weather.

Working Environment & Physical Demands

Work is primarily performed outdoors, with occasional office work, requires exposure to adverse weather conditions, high noise levels, heavy traffic, noxious chemicals, and other hazardous conditions. Work requires manual dexterity, hearing and visual acuity, and the ability and stamina to perform heavy manual labor; to crawl, climb, bend, twist, stoop, kneel, operate equipment, and perform repetitive moving of items in excess of 50 pounds, and to maintain such activities throughout a work shift. Work may involve risk of exposure to hazardous chemicals or bloodborne pathogens. Weekend and after-hours work is sometimes required, as well as after-hours response to situations and emergencies.
