    DESCRIPTION:
    The Long-Term Substitute Teacher for Clothing Construction will assume full instructional responsibility for an established Family & Consumer Sciences program during a planned maternity leave. 

    The successful candidate will deliver high-quality, standards-aligned instruction across three courses - Clothing 1: Introduction to Clothing Construction, Clothing 2: Intermediate Clothing Construction, 

    and IB Design Technology: International Baccalaureate - while maintaining classroom routines, student progress records, and departmental expectations. This position requires a motivated, organized 

    educator who can seamlessly continue an active, hands-on curriculum and provide a positive, safe sewing and design studio environment.
     
     

    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
     
    Design lesson plans, units, and pacing guides with fidelity; adjust as needed to meet student needs.
    Provide direct instruction in clothing construction techniques, textile science, and design principles.
    Differentiate instruction to support diverse learners, including students with IEPs, 504 plans, or ELL designations.
    Maintain an organized, fully operational sewing lab and design studio environment.
    Manage classroom materials, equipment, and supply inventory responsibly.
    Maintain accurate and up-to-date grade records in the district's student information system.
    Provide timely, constructive feedback on student projects and assignments.
    Communicate proactively with students, parents/guardians, and school staff regarding student progress.
    Participate in parent-teacher conferences, IEP meetings, and team meetings as required.
    Document and report behavioral concerns in accordance with school policy.
     
     

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    Valid state teaching license or substitute teaching license.
    Bachelor's degree or higher in Family & Consumer Sciences Education, Apparel Design, Fashion Merchandising, or related field preferred.
    Background in Family & Consumer Sciences, Fashion Design, Textile Arts, or a closely related field preferred.
    Experience teaching or substituting in a high school FCS or CTE program preferred.
    Experience with digital design tools and/or fashion illustration software preferred.
     

    WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
    This position is primarily performed in a high school clothing and textile laboratory. The incumbent should be able to perform the following with 

    or without reasonable accommodation:


    Stand, walk, and move throughout the classroom/lab for extended periods.
    Demonstrate sewing machine operation, hand stitching, and pressing techniques.
    Lift and carry fabric bolts, supply bins, and instructional materials (up to 30 lbs.).
    Work in an environment with moderate noise levels from sewing and serger machines.
    Use standard office technology including computers, projectors, and district software platforms.
