Pay: $34.24/HR

Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Construction Coordinator to manage and coordinate all aspects of large, complex County construction projects. The ideal candidate will ensure timely project delivery within budget while adhering to all applicable codes, regulations, and specifications.

This position plays a key role in overseeing the construction of transportation infrastructure, including paved roads, drainage systems, bridges, and sidewalks. The Construction Coordinator will be responsible for managing budgets, schedules, permitting, contract documentation, and overall project performance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee planning, design, and construction phases of large public infrastructure projects.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable building codes, environmental regulations, and safety standards.
  • Review and interpret construction design plans, perform quantity take-offs, and prepare detailed cost estimates.
  • Acquire necessary project permits and approvals.
  • Manage contractor performance, project documentation, and controls.
  • Prepare bid documents and evaluate contractor bids.
  • Utilize project/work management software and Microsoft Excel to track progress and performance.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders, vendors, and contractors to ensure project success.
  • Perform emergency duties as needed during disasters or severe weather events.

Qualifications:

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Building Construction, Architecture, Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Minimum of 6 years of professional construction experience in transportation infrastructure.
  • At least 2 years of experience in a supervisory role.
  • Extensive experience in reading blueprints, estimating, permitting, and construction project management.
  • Project management/work management software experience and Microsoft Excel proficiency preferred.

Certifications (Preferred):

  • Registered Architect (RA)
  • Professional Engineer (PE)
  • Certified Building Contractor or General Contractor License

Licenses:

  • Must possess or obtain a valid Florida Driver’s License prior to employment and maintain it throughout the term of employment.

  • Must be able to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 30 lbs.
  • Stand, walk, and drive for 1–3 hours/day; sit for 5–8 hours/day.

Working Conditions:

  • Work may occur indoors and outdoors in varying environmental conditions including heat, cold, humidity, dust, and noise.

CHARACTERISTICS OF THE CLASS: Under general direction, performs skilled professional work involving the coordination and management of all aspects of large, complex County construction projects.   EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: (Note: The listed duties are illustrative only and are not intended to describe each and every function which may be performed in the job class.  The omission of specific statements does not preclude management from assigning specific duties not listed herein if such duties are a logical assignment to the position.) Formulates functional design criteria for major, complex construction projects.  Defines the scope of project in order to determine engineering services needed.  Analyzes construction projects under consideration for satisfactory functional design criteria elements.   Coordinates all aspects of construction projects; which includes, compiling bid packages, assisting in the acquisition of qualified contractors and acquiring necessary permits.   Monitors and coordinates the work of consultants and contractors involved in various projects and represents the County's interest at project meetings. Compiles information for project contracts; such as, costs, time schedules and work elements.  Monitors projects through to completion and ensures compliance with plan specifications.  Reviews fees and hours with various firms. Tracks and coordinates the inspection of projects for adherence to federal, State and local building codes and other appropriate federal, State and local regulations.   Coordinates construction projects with other County agencies, outside agencies and the public, as needed.   Provides direction to contractors and coordinates project implementation and requirements between local officials and contractors.   Monitors expenditures for the various construction projects. Maintains records on project progress, permitting, change orders, financial data and other information. Performs related work as required.  BREVARD COUNTY BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS CD# 3517 CONSTRUCTION COORDINATOR REQUIREMENTS: EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:  Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Building Construction, Architecture, Engineering or closely related field PLUS six (6) years of professional experience relating to area of education including two (2) years in a supervisory capacity.   Additional qualifying education and/or experience which provides the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities may be substituted one for the other on a year for year basis. Certification as a Registered Architect, Professional Engineer, Building Contractor or General Contractor is desired. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:  Must possess or obtain, prior to employment, a valid Florida Driver's License.   In the event of a hurricane, major storm, natural or man-made disaster that may threaten the area, the employee will be required to perform emergency duties as directed.   KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: (Note: The knowledge, skills and abilities identified in this class specification represent those needed to perform the duties of this class.  Additional knowledge, skills and abilities may be applicable for individual positions.) Thorough knowledge of the laws, codes and regulations relating to building construction and renovation. Thorough knowledge of local housing, electrical, plumbing and roofing codes and regulations governing construction. Good knowledge of the Florida Building Code. Good knowledge of related disciplines; such as, landscape architecture, mechanical, electrical, civil and structural engineering. Good knowledge of project management. Good knowledge of the laws and regulations relating to public facilities. Some knowledge of budgetary/fiscal management. Ability to read and interpret drawings, plans, and work specifications. Ability to prepare cost estimates and analysis. Ability to prepare and analyze construction and design schedules. Ability to coordinate and manage building construction projects and to interpret contracts and prepare associated scopes of work. Ability to evaluate and incorporate the latest developments in the field of construction management. Ability to maintain comprehensive records. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to direct and supervise the work of others. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:  This is moderately active physical work.  Must be able to perform inspections on active construction sites.     WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed both inside an office and outside at project sites.  Work may involve exposure to weather extremes.
