Job Description
Non-Exempt; 8 Hours/Day; 252 Days/Year; 12 Months/Year
General Responsibilities
This position is the trade helpers/entry Level classification in the carpentry trades series; to include working in a carpenter crew, engaged in performing a variety of skilled carpentry and tasks.
Education and Experience
Requires a high school diploma, experience in the carpentry trade; completion of an apprenticeship program or; any equivalent combination of education and experienced that would provide the above referenced knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Essential Job Functions
Participates in the work of small-to-large groups of employees engaged in performing a variety of skilled carpentry duties on the interior and exterior of buildings; to include building repair and installation, a variety of structural woodwork, cabinetry, flooring and other related structural components in accordance with building codes.
Works under the direct supervision of a Level III or Level II carpenter, procures materials and assists with the completion of assigned work.
Assists with the building and installation of cabinetry and classroom accessories; to include bookcases, coat racks; repairing and replacing floor tiles, carpeting, wooden floors, ceiling tiles, metal grids, window shades, blinds, desks, chairs and other related tasks.
Assists with the repairs or replaces of damaged window panes, cleans metal window frames and surfaces, assists with the installation of glass in place.
Performs light forming and concrete work.
Assist with the replacement of hardware such as hinges, handles and locks; to include repairing and replacing internal and external doors and door frames.
Assist in building forms, partitions, decks and walls.
Operates and maintains hand and power tools, including drills and planers, table, band, panel and radial arm saws, routers, orbital and belt sanders, metal cutters and post-hole diggers.
Uses ladders, scaffolding, bobcat, stake bed, dump and bucket trucks.
Assists the shop supervisor with assigned tasks as needed.
Orders and procures materials from vendors and supply houses.
Ensures proper maintenance of tools and other carpentry equipment.
Responsible for safety in the work area.
Drives a vehicle to and from work locations and keeps vehicle supplied with tools and materials.
Orders and procures parts and materials from vendors and supply houses.
Performs routine maintenance on vehicles.
Performs other duties as assigned.
