KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Financial Operations & Reporting

  • Carry out accounting functions with precision: A/P, A/R, payroll oversight, job costing, reconciliations, and month-end close.
  • Establish clear month-end close procedures to achieve a consistent 5-day close timeline.
  • Prepare and deliver clean, audit-ready financial statements (P&L, Balance Sheet, cash flow).
  • Support leadership with reliable forecasting and cash flow tracking.

Construction Accounting

  • Maintain accurate job cost records and implement a dashboard for real-time tracking.
  • Ensure commitments, change orders, and cost coding are carefully managed.
  • Support preparation of Work-in-Progress (WIP) reports and monthly project projections.
  • Oversee billing processes (AIA, subcontractor invoicing, retainage, lien waivers).

Process Improvement & Team Development

  • Build and support a capable AP/AR team that can confidently manage day-to-day tasks.
  • Identify opportunities to
streamline workflows and strengthen internal controls.
  • Contribute to dashboards and reporting tools that improve clarity for leadership.

Leadership & Growth Track

  • Provide dependable support to executive leadership while gaining the experience to grow into the Controller role.
  • Model Northstar’s values of integrity, care, and accountability in daily work.
  • Partner with leadership to align financial processes with long-term company goals.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with construction industry experience required (job costing, WIP reporting).
  • Proficiency in construction accounting software (Deltek ComputerEase strongly preferred).
  • Detail-oriented with a consistent, methodical approach to work.
  • Demonstrated ability to implement process improvements and streamline workflows.
  • Strong communication skills, integrity, and accountability.
  • Desire and capacity to grow into the Controller role as Northstar continues to scale.
